The Canadian Nuclear Society (CNS) is pleased to announce the 5th Canadian Conference on Waste Management, Decommissioning and Environmental Restoration to be held August 27-31, 2023 in Niagara Falls, Canada. The theme of the conference is Environmental sustainability through timely waste management and decommissioning.

NWMDER 2023 will bring together 350-400 Canadian and international participants involved in the technical, regulatory, environmental, social and economic aspects of nuclear waste management, decommissioning and environmental restoration, including representatives of operating utilities, service providers, regulators, researchers and community stakeholders.

The conference is Canada’s premier nuclear waste and decommissioning conference and will provide a forum for discussion of the current status and proposed future directions of the industry and how these could translate into new business opportunities.

Topics that will be addressed during the conference include:

  • Government policies, programs & oversight
  • Stakeholder engagement
  • Indigenous participation in the nuclear industry
  • Uranium mining & milling waste management
  • Low level, intermediate level, & mixed waste management
  • Used nuclear fuel & high-level waste management

The conference is organized into three days of plenary sessions, concurrent technical tracks, and poster sessions and there will be a business exhibition to showcase technology, equipment, and services.

Optional post-conference technical tours to Canadian facilities engaged in nuclear waste management, decommissioning and/or environmental restoration will be held on Thursday, August 31.
