Women in Nuclear UK’s new President-Elect has been announced today – and she holds a passion for enabling more women to have fulfilling and successful careers in the industry.

Clare Sharpe, currently Transfer and Deconstruction Director for EDF UK, will take on the mantle of the WiN UK President once Ivan Baldwin officially hands over the reins at the organisation’s annual conference on May 14.

Clare said: “I am delighted to be given this opportunity to push for continued change and diversity in the nuclear industry. As a senior leader, I am keen to give back and I feel a strong drive to enable more women to have fulfilling and successful careers in this amazing sector.

“I passionately believe in the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion; not just because it is the right thing to do morally but also because of the important, proven part it plays in improving overall business performance.”

Clare came out top among an extremely strong field applying for the prestigious role, demonstrating how WiN UK’s visibility and value has grown over the last couple of years.

WiN UK President Ivan said: “It’s been an absolute privilege to lead the fantastic team at WiN UK during the past two years. I know Clare will continue the drive for change in our industry at all levels to ensure better opportunities for women and I wish her the very best in her efforts.”

Clare added that now more than ever and with an exciting future ahead for the UK’s nuclear industry, accessing the widest pool of skills talent and attracting and retaining women is essential. WiN UK has a goal of ensuring 40% of the workforce is female by 2030 and is also driving to increase the proportion of women in senior management to 30%.

Clare will make her first speech and lay out her vision at the annual conference in Manchester later this year.
