The National Skills Academy for Nuclear (NSAN) has appointed Mark Kenhard as Skills Programme Delivery Lead.

Mark will lead two major projects awarded to NSAN by the Nuclear Sector Skills Team (NSST), helping to strengthen skills delivery and widen access to training opportunities across the sector, as part of the Nuclear Skills Plan.

In this role, he will oversee delivery of the Nuclear Bursary Scheme, supporting talented individuals, particularly from lower socio-economic backgrounds to access funding for education and/or wider professional development. As well as financial support, recipients access mentorship and career development opportunities, with the aim of securing or advancing in roles in the UK nuclear sector.

Mark will also lead the design and development of a new data-driven decision-making framework under the Nuclear Skills Plan, that ensures investments in training infrastructure directly align with industry needs. The project aims to support the training provider network to respond to evolving regional skills requirements, helping to bridge skills gaps across the nuclear sector through optimised resource allocation and investment.

Together, the projects will widen access to opportunities and help create a more connected, responsive and sustainable training network for the UK nuclear sector.

Mark brings extensive experience from the defence, manufacturing and finance sectors, where he has led capability and workforce development programmes in complex environments. Earlier in his career, he also worked in international training delivery across Europe, Africa and Australia, giving him a broad perspective on workforce capability and skills development.

Tricia Austin, Managing Director of NSAN, said:

“We are delighted to welcome Mark to NSAN at such an important time for the sector. He brings exactly the kind of experience and delivery focus needed to help turn strategic skills priorities into practical action. His appointment strengthens our ability to support employers, widen opportunity and help build the skilled workforce the nuclear sector needs for the future.”

Mark Kenhard said:

“I’m delighted to be joining NSAN at a time when skills development is so critical to the future of the nuclear sector. The two projects I’ll be leading have real potential to widen opportunity, strengthen training provision and support employers in meeting future workforce needs. I’m looking forward to working with colleagues and partners to deliver meaningful impact.”

Mark’s appointment reinforces NSAN’s commitment to delivering practical skills solutions that widen opportunity, strengthen training provision and support the long-term success of the UK nuclear sector.
