Newburgh Engineering Co Limited has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Jonathan Todd as Business Systems Manager, following his return to the employee-owned precision engineering business at its Bradwell headquarters in April.

Jonathan rejoins the Derbyshire manufacturer at an exciting stage in the company’s development, as it continues to invest in advanced manufacturing technologies, digital systems, operational excellence and long-term growth following its return to the historic Newburgh Engineering name. Founded in 1939, the company manufactures high-integrity components and assemblies for some of the UK’s most demanding sectors, including nuclear, defence, aerospace and advanced engineering.

Jonathan’s return is particularly significant as it marks a full-circle moment in a career that began at Newburgh. He originally joined the business as an apprentice; during his apprenticeship, he received national recognition, winning the EEF Midlands Outstanding Achievement by a First-Year Apprentice Award for his commitment, technical ability, and exceptional potential.

After completing his apprenticeship, Jonathan progressed through a variety of engineering and manufacturing roles, developing extensive experience in production, operations and business systems. He later broadened his expertise with other manufacturing organisations before returning to Newburgh to help drive the next phase of the company’s growth.

In his role as Business Systems Manager, Jonathan’s initial priority is leading the implementation of FactoryMaster, Newburgh Engineering’s new Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system. The investment will further strengthen the company’s digital infrastructure by improving production planning, materials management and operational visibility, while providing a robust platform to support future growth. The new system will help streamline manufacturing operations by integrating production planning, purchasing, inventory management, scheduling and reporting, supporting greater efficiency across the business as Newburgh continues to grow.

Alongside the MRP implementation, Jonathan will oversee the ongoing development of the company’s business systems, driving continuous improvement and ensuring processes continue to evolve in line with the needs of customers and the wider business.

Managing Director Matt Keeley welcomed Jonathan back to the business.

“We’re delighted to welcome Jonathan back to Newburgh Engineering. It’s always rewarding to see talented people return after gaining valuable experience elsewhere, and Jonathan is a fantastic example of that.

“He began his engineering career with us as an apprentice, earned national recognition for his achievements and has continued to build an impressive career in manufacturing. Having someone with that knowledge of our business, combined with the experience he’s gained since leaving, is a real asset.

“The implementation of FactoryMaster is a significant strategic investment for Newburgh. Jonathan’s experience makes him the ideal person to lead the project, ensuring we maximise the benefits of the new Manufacturing Resource Planning system while supporting colleagues across the business through the transition.

“As we continue to grow and invest in the future, strong business systems are fundamental to everything we do. Jonathan has already made a positive impact since rejoining us in April, and I’m looking forward to seeing the role he will play in supporting our continued development.”

Speaking about his return, Jonathan Todd said:

“Returning to Newburgh Engineering is a real highlight for me. This is where my engineering career began, and it provided the foundations that have shaped everything I’ve gone on to achieve.

“Since leaving, I’ve had the opportunity to broaden my experience and develop new skills, so it’s incredibly rewarding to bring that knowledge back to a business that has always meant a great deal to me.

“One of my immediate priorities is the implementation of FactoryMaster, which will provide an excellent platform for the future. Introducing a new Manufacturing Resource Planning system is about much more than technology – it’s about improving the way information flows through the business, strengthening production planning and giving our teams the tools they need to continue delivering the quality, responsiveness and service our customers expect.

“Newburgh has a proud heritage, but it’s also a forward-thinking business that continues to invest in its people, technology and processes. I’m excited to be working with colleagues across the company to strengthen our business systems, support continuous improvement and help deliver the high standards our customers expect.”

As an employee-owned business, Newburgh Engineering continues to invest in both its people and technology, combining more than 85 years of engineering heritage with a modern manufacturing approach that supports customers operating in highly regulated and safety-critical industries. Jonathan’s career journey, from apprentice to award winner, gaining wider industry experience and returning to the business in a senior leadership role, demonstrates the long-term opportunities available within UK manufacturing and reflects Newburgh Engineering’s commitment to developing engineering talent while investing in the systems that will support the company’s future growth.
