In reaction to the government announcing a £1.3 billion investment in Sizewell C to support construction (link), Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:

“Sizewell C is Britain’s next big green infrastructure project, and this investment shows the UK is committed to ramping up nuclear capacity to cut gas, cut carbon and provide energy security.

“The station will generate enough clean power for 6 million homes from a quarter of square mile of land and create thousands of skilled jobs right across the country. Sizewell C paves the way for other nuclear projects, both large and small, which will revitalise the industry in the UK.”

Notes to Editors

  • Sizewell C would be the joint greenest project in British history, with a lifecycle carbon intensity of just 5.5g/kWh.
  • Sizewell C would produce approximately 26 TWh of electricity per year, enough to displace more than 5 billion cubic metres of gas burning.
