Sellafield’s new chief executive officer, Euan Hutton, has laid out his vision for the business on his first day in the job.

Euan Hutton was appointed CEO last month, stepping up from the chief nuclear officer role he has held since 2018.

He has extensive experience of Sellafield’s operations and challenges, having served in a number of senior leadership roles.

Euan said:

“It’s a huge honour to be leading this unique organisation at a pivotal moment in its history. Sellafield has a proud record of serving the national interest over the last 70 years. I’m committed to continuing this by stepping up the pace of safe delivery and continuing to work in partnership with our supply chain and communities. We can only do this together if we have a culture where everyone is listened to, respected, and included. Key to this is openness and transparency in our decision making and our communications with you the workforce,  and our stakeholders. Everyone has a role to play in the success of Sellafield Ltd and I’m proud to lead the organisation into its next chapter.”

Euan, who lives near Cockermouth, began his career on Sellafield’s graduate programme. He went on to hold positions across the UK and international nuclear industry during a 31 year career.

In 2016 he was appointed Sellafield Ltd director of environment, health and safety where he supported the transition of the company into a wholly-owned subsidiary of the NDA.

More recently he was responsible for the operations of the Sellafield site as interim site director and held the role of Chief Nuclear Officer.
