To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, meet three of Amentum's passionate apprentices.

Why did you choose the apprentice route?
“After completing an Advanced Apprenticeship and gaining seven years’ experience in industry, I wanted to push myself to achieve more and reach my full potential.
“Amentum offered the opportunity to undertake a Level five and six Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, and I grabbed it with both hands.
“This allowed me to break into a more rewarding profession while having the opportunity to gain further qualifications, experience, and a highly sought-after certification.”

Have you faced any challenges during your apprenticeship so far?
“My apprenticeship has helped me grow in confidence as when I first started, I was nervous to ask questions as I didn’t want to appear as though I was struggling. Over time, I realised that giving a task a try and asking for clarification is much more efficient than staying silent and fixing avoidable mistakes.”
What advice would you give to someone embarking on an apprenticeship?
“My advice to someone starting an apprenticeship is to embrace being introduced into a working industry where you are nurtured and encouraged to try (and sometimes fail). As a result, you will grow both personally and professionally.
“My biggest bit of advice is to absorb everything possible from the people around you – never let a question go un-asked. Enthusiasm will always outweigh intelligence.”
