The All Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy has today welcomed the Chancellor’s backing of new nuclear power, and the decision to proceed with Sizewell C. In response, Charlotte Nichols MP, Co-Chair of the Nuclear Energy APPG said:

“Net Zero needs nuclear, and it’s great news that we finally have progress on this vital project for Britain’s energy security. 10,000 green jobs powering six million homes will be the backbone of our transition to a low carbon economy.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more detail on Great British Nuclear in the coming weeks. We need a pipeline of projects drive the necessary recruitment and skills development to deliver the capacity we need to hit net zero by 2050.”

About the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Nuclear Energy

The APPG on Nuclear Energy provides a forum for MPs and Peers to engage with leading businesses and organisations that are working to enable the UK to meet its decarbonisation targets through the implementation of civil nuclear projects, and to discuss policy options to support these.

The Group was established in July 2015. It is a cross-party group of MPs and Peers that focuses on raising awareness of and building support for nuclear energy projects that will enable the UK to meet decarbonisation targets.
