Lucideon and Cavendish Nuclear welcomed a delegation of visitors from Japan to discuss the latest innovations in complex decommissioning challenges.

Cavendish Nuclear, a wholly owned subsidiary of Babcock International Group, welcomed  delegates from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and JANUS, a leading technical consultancy in the country’s nuclear energy sector, to the headquarters in Warrington.

The delegation also travelled to Staffordshire to meet the team at international technology company, Lucideon.

Cavendish Nuclear and Lucideon recently entered into an agreement, to explore advancements in geopolymer technology and its applications across the nuclear sector to address global decommissioning challenges, with an initial focus on nuclear waste management and decommissioning in the Japanese market.

Both companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to bring together Cavendish Nuclear’s engineering expertise in nuclear decommissioning and environmental clean-up works, combined with Lucideon’s MIDAR? geopolymer technology.

Michael Bond, Cavendish Nuclear’s International & Business Winning Director, said:

“We were honoured to welcome METI and JANUS to our Cavendish Nuclear offices to discuss our shared commitment to innovation and decommissioning. We look forward to continuing to build strong international partnerships that help drive progress across our industry.”

Tony Kinsella, Chief Executive Officer at Lucideon, added:

“It was a privilege to host METI and JANUS along with our partner Cavendish Nuclear at Lucideon HQ in Staffordshire. Our open discussions included the impressive progress in Japanese decommissioning and the ongoing need for materials technology innovation.

“With Cavendish Nuclear, we are creating a powerful partnership to address some of the most complex waste management and decommissioning challenges in Japan and beyond. This visit was an important opportunity to showcase how we are accelerating innovation across the nuclear industry.”
