The Nuclear Industry Association has welcomed the multi-year fuel contracts announced today (13 October) between Sizewell C, Urenco and Framatome for enriched uranium services and fuel fabrication [link]. The contracts will support around 1,000 existing jobs at Urenco’s enrichment site in Capenhurst and give a major boost to the development of Framatome’s new fuel fabrication facility in the UK.

Welcoming the announcement, Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:

“This is excellent news for the UK’s energy security and for the resilience of our domestic nuclear supply chain. These long-term fuel contracts between Sizewell C, Urenco and Framatome demonstrate how investment in new nuclear directly supports skilled jobs, clean energy and industrial growth across the country.

“The commitment to develop a new fuel fabrication facility in the UK, alongside continued enrichment work in the North West, is particularly significant. Together, they will create high-quality jobs, build vital resilience into our supply chain, and strengthen our ability to produce the fuel that powers our nuclear fleet here at home.

“These agreements underpin a project that will provide reliable, low-carbon power to millions of homes for generations — a clear example of how the UK’s nuclear industry is delivering energy independence and driving the transition to net zero.”
