The Nuclear Industry Association has welcomed the £196 million investment the UK Government to support the build of an advanced fuels facility at Urenco’s Capenhurst site in the North West of England (link).

The investment will help facilitate the Department of Energy Security and Net Zero’s High Assay Low Enriched Uranium (HALEU) Programme, announced in January.

In welcoming the announcement, Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association said:

“This investment will enable the UK to fuel advanced reactors around the world, building on our existing capabilities to strengthen energy security for our allies while reducing their reliance on Russia.

“Urenco at Capenhurst is at the very forefront of the UK’s capability, with this new facility bringing opportunities for the supply chain, new jobs and investment in the North West of England.”
