Welcoming EDF’s £4.3 billion investment in the UK’s growth, clean energy and job creation (link), Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:

“The scale of EDF’s investment in British clean power, energy security and jobs is hugely welcome and absolutely essential to the UK’s growth ambition.

“As Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity its nuclear fleet is vital in keeping the lights on whatever the weather, providing reliable and secure homegrown clean power to millions of homes, and helping to support over 30,000 jobs during the generation phase.

“At Hinkley Point C, 15,000 people are working in good, skilled, well-paid jobs helping to build Britain’s cleanest and most powerful low carbon energy project ever, and an army of 1,500 apprentices, all trained on site, means the next generation have gained new skills and new opportunities, all of which will be replicated at Sizewell C.

“This is a hugely important period for the sector as we await major decisions and I look forward to working with EDF and the rest of the industry to deliver vital new projects.”
