NIA is working with GIFEN to organise a visit to Cherbourg in September for members. The programme will include visits to the HEFAIS Welding School, Orano facilities, and the Flamanville nuclear site in the Cherbourg region.

We are seeking expressions of interest from NIA members for a proposed visit to the Cherbourg region in September. The draft agenda for the visit is outlined below.

Wednesday 23 September
  • 13:30 – 15:00 – Visit to HEFAIS Welding School
  • 17:00 – 18:30 – B2B Networking Session with UK and French Companies
  • 19:00 – Group Dinner
Thursday 24 September
  • 08:30 – 09:00 – Transfer to Orano NPS
  • 09:00 – 11:30 – Visit to Orano NPS Facilities
  • 12:00 – 13:00 – Lunch
  • 13:30 – 16:30 – Visit to Flamanville Nuclear Power Plant
  • 16:45 – 17:15 – Transfer to Cherbourg Railway Station
  • 17:45 – 21:03 – Train from Cherbourg to Paris Saint-Lazare (approximate fare: £30)

Hefais Welding School

Hefais is a high-level industrial school that offers training to job seekers and company employees, beginners or experienced people from Normandy and beyond.

Orano Visit

Orano NPS specializes in the design, manufacturing, and operation of packaging, transport, and storage solutions for nuclear materials, serving stakeholders across the nuclear fuel cycle.

Flamanville visit

During your visit, you will attend a presentation covering the following topics: EDF Group activities, the energy mix, and the overall operating principles of a nuclear power plant. This will be followed by a tour of the industrial facilities at Flamanville 2 as well as the control room simulator.(unfortunately we cannot visit the Flamanville 3 unit (EPR).
