In reaction to the UK government’s publication of its modern Industrial Strategy (link), Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:

“Today’s industrial strategy identifies nuclear as one of the most important growth sectors and the bedrock of our energy security, with billions of pounds going into making Britain a global leader in nuclear.

“The sector already employs over 85,000 people, creating opportunities for businesses across the country, but new projects at Sizewell C, a fleet of Rolls-Royce SMRs, the STEP fusion project, and advancements in decommissioning and fuel sectors, will create more jobs, attract more business and open up new opportunities at home and abroad.

“We welcome the ambition and the vision – what is vital now is that we ensure nuclear projects can be delivered in the most efficient way possible as well as a clear plan of what comes next, including at Wylfa on Anglesey, so that industry can continue to attract investment into the supply chain, skills and expertise.”
