The National Skills Academy Nuclear (NSAN) and Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Sask Polytech) have formalised a landmark agreement to advance workforce development for Canada’s nuclear sector.

This exclusive 5-year partnership grants Sask Polytech the rights to deliver NSAN’s nuclear training programmes across Canada, available both in-person and through innovative online formats.

Through this partnership, a comprehensive suite of industry-leading courses will be made available, tailored to meet the evolving needs of the Canadian nuclear sector. This agreement will include the highly regarded Growing Awareness in Nuclear (GAIN) programme designed to raise awareness and deepen understanding of nuclear fundamentals for new entrants from various sectors. Additional courses will cover key topics such as nuclear safety culture, regulatory requirements, leadership and management in nuclear environments.

By combining NSAN’s nuclear workforce expertise with Sask Polytech’s leadership in applied education, the collaboration will expand access to these valuable training opportunities and align Canadian nuclear skills development with international best practices.

Organisations throughout Saskatchewan will benefit from NSAN’s comprehensive courses and decades of expertise, supporting the province’s commitment to excellence, safety, and sustainability in nuclear energy.

The agreement was formalised during a meeting with The Honourable Jeremy Harrison, Minister of Crown Investment Corporation and Minister responsible for Saskatchewan Power Corporation and SaskEnergy.at the Canada-UK Nuclear Day at Canada House in London on the 3rd September.

Tricia Austin, Managing Director of NSAN, commented:

“We are delighted to expand our presence and bring our expertise to Saskatchewan. This partnership will empower local organisations with the critical skills and knowledge required to thrive in a rapidly evolving industry. By empowering organisations with the highest standards of training and skills development, NSAN continues to work collaboratively to drive the industry forward and support the future of Canada’s nuclear workforce.”

This announcement follows NSAN’s recent successes in Saskatchewan, including the launch of the GAIN programme and custom-designed Introduction to the Nuclear Industry for Senior Leaders course. These initiatives, along with the expanded course offerings, demonstrate NSAN’s dedication to supporting Canada’s skills capacity in the nuclear power sector.
