Welcoming the Scotland Secretary, Ian Murray’s call for the Scottish Government to end its opposition to nuclear energy in a speech today on driving economic growth in Scotland (link), Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:
“The Scottish Government’s anti-growth and anti-science stance on nuclear energy is bad news for Scottish clean power, investment and jobs and the Scottish Secretary is right to warn that opportunities will be lost to other parts of the UK without change.
“He rightly points out that new projects at Hunterston and Torness could create up to 2,000 new jobs – over £150 million in direct local wages – and tens of millions of pounds being paid in business rates, but only if the Scottish Government removes self imposed, ideologically driven barriers.”
