The NIA comments on Radioactive Waste Management’s documents on GDF
19 December 2018
The documents published today by Radioactive Waste Management have set out the new consent-based siting process, factors it will consider in evaluating prospective sites, and its commitment to work in partnership with local authorities and other community representatives to find a suitable location for a Geological Disposal Facility. Commenting on this, Tom Greatrex, chief executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, said:
“Geological disposal is the best strategy for the long term safe and secure management of radiological waste and is the solution being adopted internationally.
“It is right communities are being placed at the centre of the process of finding the best sites for geological disposal facilities. The creation and success of the facilities relies on partnerships with local communities.”
