NIA joins international nuclear industry statement reaffirming nuclear’s role in delivering net zero and energy security

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) has joined nuclear industry organisations from around the world in signing a joint declaration at the 2026 Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, reaffirming nuclear energy’s essential role in delivering secure, affordable and low-carbon energy.

The summit, hosted by the French Government and supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), brought together governments and industry leaders to strengthen international cooperation on nuclear energy as global electricity demand rises and countries work to meet climate goals.

In the statement, nuclear industry associations from across the globe emphasised that nuclear power is a key pillar of sustainable and resilient energy systems, capable of delivering large volumes of reliable, low-carbon electricity while supporting economic growth, skilled jobs and energy security.

The declaration also reiterates industry support for the global ambition to triple nuclear capacity by 2050, recognising that achieving net zero will require rapid deployment of all low-carbon technologies.

The NIA welcomed the growing international momentum behind nuclear energy and the increasing number of countries recognising its role in achieving secure, affordable and clean energy systems.
