The UK Nuclear Industry Association’s Chief Executive, Tom Greatrex, has welcomed today’s announcement that the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Cwmni Egino to support their development of a new small scale nuclear project in North Wales (link):
“Wales is home to two world-class nuclear sites and Trawsfynydd could play a key role in providing a vital source of clean power to cut gas use and strengthen our energy security.
“Given its rich history in producing clean, homegrown energy, the site it is a clear target for developers and this collaboration shows that the industry is serious about delivering new projects.”

“O ystyried ei hanes cyfoethog o gynhyrchu ynni di-garbon, mae’r safle yn darged clir i ddatblygwyr ac mae’r cydweithrediad hwn yn dangos bod y diwydiant o ddifrif ynglŷn â chyflawni prosiectau niwclear newydd.”

- The UK has five generating nuclear power stations, providing around 16% of the country’s electricity from 5.9 GW of capacity.
- Two stations will retire by March 2024, and all but one will retire by March 2028.
- Nuclear has saved the UK 2.3 billion tonnes of carbon emissions, far more than any other source. The saving is equivalent to all UK emissions from 2015 through 2020.
