Award for Nuclear Industry Awareness Re-Launched

02 December 2019

NSAN has updated the popular Award for Nuclear Industry Awareness qualification (ANIA). The revised course is available for online enrolment via NSAN’s online learning portal the Nuclear Training Network.

The Award has been primarily designed to meet the needs of apprentices and all other personnel new to the nuclear sector who need to gain a foundation level of understanding of the nuclear industry into which they will be starting their employment. The Award will also benefit those in the industry who want to have a broader awareness and wish to gain recognition of their knowledge of the nuclear sector.

The course comprises of three units,

Unit 1 History and development of the nuclear industry

Unit 2 Fundamentals of nuclear science

Unit 3 Application of nuclear energy and waste disposal

Jo Tipa, Managing Director of NSAN said:

“The ANIA was NSAN’s first online course which originally launched in 2009.  Given that a new specification has been developed to consider the recent developments in the industry, the skills requirements of the sector, and the advancement in e-Learning technology, the time is right to revise and re-launch the course.

As highlighted in the Nuclear Sector Deal, awareness courses are an important tool in supporting people transitioning from other sectors.  The ANIA is an ideal course to support these individuals.

As the sector is working towards doubling the intake of apprentices by 2021, the revised ANIA will be an effective and useful course to develop the industry knowledge of apprentices as they start their careers.”

The online delivery of this course provides learners with the opportunity to study at their own pace and at times to suit their lifestyle, enabling people to study alongside their current employment or family commitments.

As a level 2 qualification via GQA, the study time for the Award is around 70 hours. The final assessment is by written examination taken at an approved examination centre. The assessment date and venue are selected by learners at registration.
