The Nuclear Industry Association’s Nuclear Supply Chain Development Programme (SC@nuclear) was successfully launched at a high profile “Nuclear Supply Chain Workshop” on 3 March 2009.
UK industry will play a key role in delivering a fleet of new nuclear power stations across Britain and the NIA’s SC@nuclear initiative aims to help British business be first off the blocks in the supply chain. Nuclear business has the potential to secure tens of billions of pounds for the wider UK economy, and create thousands of highly skilled jobs.
Since its launch the NIA has lead a programme of national activities and events under the banner SC@nuclear. Their aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist and are being created in the nuclear sector, and to help strengthen and promote the capability of the UK supply chain so that UK companies are able to play a full role in future nuclear development at home and overseas.
It’s not just new build that we cover. The UK has a legacy of nuclear power generation that is in various stages of closing down along with additional sites that will need to be decommissioned in the future so highlighting available opportunities is also a key goal. As a pioneer in the development of nuclear power generation, the UKalso holds a wealth of experience in decommissioning which can be promoted to the wider global nuclear community.
