SC@nuclear The Nuclear Industry Association’s Nuclear Supply Chain Development Programme (SC@nuclear) was successfully launched at a high profile “Nuclear Supply Chain Workshop” on 3 March at Rolls-Royce in Derby. The conference, aimed at the manufacturing sector, attracted 300 delegates who were addressed by the Energy Minister, Mike O’Brien, and leading industry figures. The event was run jointly by the NIA and the Special Metals Forum (SMF), and supported by Rolls-Royce and the Government through the Office for Nuclear Development (OND) in the Department of Energy and Climate Change, and the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, In his speech Mike O’Brien called on the UK industry to play a key role in delivering a fleet of new nuclear power stations across Britain. He noted the importance of the NIA’s SC@nuclear initiative in helping British business be first off the blocks in the global supply chain race, and pledged strong Government support. Nuclear business has the potential to secure tens of billions of pounds for the wider UK economy, and create thousands of highly skilled jobs. SC@nuclear Following that launch NIA will lead a programme of national activities and events under the banner SC@nuclear. These events will be taking place at various locations around the country during the course of this year. Their aim is to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist and are being created in the nuclear sector, and to help strengthen and promote the capability of the UK supply chain so that UK companies are able to play a full role in future nuclear development at home and overseas.
