Response by the NIA to the committee on radioactive waste management (CORWM) report | Print |  E-mail
Monday, 31 July 2006
The nuclear industry welcomes the clarity today’s announcement by CORWM brings to the crucial issue of long-term waste management.

Keith Parker, chief executive of the Nuclear Industry Association, the body that represents the UK’s nuclear companies, said he was pleased with CORWM’s findings.

“We agree with the committee’s main recommendations that geological disposal is the best approach and we would urge timely consideration by government of the findings and development of ongoing policy.”

“The industry recognises that CoRWM’s consultation process has been an extensive and thorough undertaking and hopes that the Government will build on this experience in the next phase. We strongly support the need for full and open engagement with potential host communities and their full involvement in the decision-making process.”
