PHILIP DEWHURST has stepped-down as chairman of the Nuclear Industry Association after two years at the helm.

His decision follows his departure from BNFL to take up a new challenge as head of communications for the marketing & trading arm of Gazprom.
Philip said his two years at the NIA had been a memorable experience at a very exciting time for the nuclear industry in the UK.

“My two years as Chairman were memorable in terms of the amount of positive change in the nuclear sector in the UK and I am sure that the 2007 White Paper will help pave the way for the construction of a new generation of efficient, modern nuclear reactors in the UK,” he said.

“It was also a privilege for me to work with the professional team at NIA, led by Keith Parker. In terms of resources, we are one of the smallest industry associations in the UK, but in terms of effectiveness, one of the strongest.

“I wish all in the industry every success in 2007 and beyond and will watch the future of the NIA
with keen interest.”

A nomination committee has been set-up find a successor.
