The Nuclear Industry Association welcomes today's interim findings from the Conservative Party's energy review. In particular we welcome their position on carbon valuation and the need to streamline the planning process which we view as positive moves for the potential development of the nuclear industry in the UK. We agree with their view that nuclear does not need subsidy or special favour, and the overall strategic emphasis in the findings for securing a low carbon energy future for the UK. The Nuclear Industry Association however believes there is now a need to make timely decisions on energy policy to create a framework for investment in new nuclear generation to take place and would take issue that nuclear is an energy choice "of last resort". Nuclear power presently supplies 20% of the UK's electricity and provides safe, reliable generation for the UK's balanced energy mix.
