UK & India Business Leaders Meet in New Delhi to Discuss Low-Carbon Growth | Print |  E-mail
Thursday, 26 August 2010
PART OF THE OFFICIAL MISSION WAS KEITH PARKER’S VISIT TO NEW DELHI as member of the UK-India Business Leaders Climate Change group along with Greg Barker, the DECC minister for Climate Change.

The group, launched in February 2010 in London, discussed opportunities to create low carbon economic growth and related jobs.

One of the key outcomes of the New Delhi meeting was the agreement of particular areas for collaboration, namely on unlocking low-carbon growth, such as: R&D, investment, financing tools, trade, and technology transfer and policy design. In terms of nuclear, closer links would be forged between regulators and design assessments as well as a greater partnership on education and training.

Speaking in New Delhi, Greg Barker said that the “potential of the “green economy” is huge. The UK-India Business Leaders Climate Group will be at the forefront of realising these opportunities for both countries.”

At the group’s inception in February, a draft report was discussed as a basis for launching a charter of principles and recommended actions for strengthening collaboration, which was also discussed at the New Delhi meeting.

The final report will be presented to the UK and Indian governments later this year.
