FORATOM welcomes IEA/NEA report that underlines the competitiveness of nuclear energy FORATOM, the trade association representing the European nuclear industry, welcomes the findings of the report entitled Projected Costs of Generating electricity that was published today by the International Energy Agency and the Nuclear Energy Agency of the OECD. The report, which provides a comparative analysis of the costs of generating electricity from nuclear energy, fossil fuels and certain renewable technologies, highlights how nuclear energy is a highly competitive energy option for the production of baseload electricity. Among the most important conclusions drawn by the study is the fact that “…low-carbon technologies like nuclear energy are the most competitive solutions.” The report also underlines nuclear energy’s “capacity to deliver significant amounts of very low-carbon baseload electricity at costs that are stable over time.” Welcoming the conclusions of the report Santiago San Antonio, Director General of FORATOM, stressed:” The results of this study confirm that nuclear energy plays - and will continue to play - a vital role in Europe’s energy mix.
