Westinghouse wins contract with EdF | Print |  E-mail
Westinghouse, a leading supplier of nuclear plant products and technologies, has won a contract to provide nuclear fuel to Electricité de France (EdF) for use in French nuclear power stations. This contract gives Westinghouse the opportunity to provide up to 20% of EdF's total fuel requirements, and will be part of EdF's programme to meet European Commission directives on international competition in the French nuclear market. France has a high reliance on nuclear power, providing about 77% of the country's electricity.

Components and fuel assemblies will be manufactured through The European Fuel Group at the Westinghouse facility at Västerås in Sweden, and the ENSU plant in Juzbado, Spain. Most components will be manufactured at plants in Columbia, S.C. and Blairsville, P.A. Conversion services will be provided by The Westinghouse Springfields facility in the UK, and BNFL-Westinghouse French infrastructures will be able to offer field and operation services.

Westinghouse President and CEO, Steve Tritch, said "This contract is significant for Westinghouse and the nuclear power industry. EdF is the largest and certainly one of the most respected nuclear generators in the world. We are delighted to be working with them on this programme"

Westinghouse Electric Company is wholly owned by BNFL plc in the UK, and approximately one half of the world's operating nuclear plants are based on Westinghouse technology..
