UKAEA Chairman Tunnicliffe Resigns | Print |  E-mail
Denis Tunnicliffe has resigned as chairman of the UK Atomic Energy Authority
(UKAEA), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announced on 1st May.

Mr Tunnicliffe is to become a member of Britain's House of Lords.

Secretary of state for trade and industry Patricia Hewitt accepted Mr
Tunnicliffe's resignation and said: "Under his leadership the UKAEA has made
great strides in addressing and accelerating nuclear clean-up."

Mr Tunnicliffe became UKAEA chairman in the spring of 2002, succeeding Admiral
Sir Kenneth Eaton to the post. Mr Tunnicliffe was chief executive of London
Transport until its restructuring in 2000. The department said Mr Tunnicliffe's successor would be announced "in due
course".

Last month, the UKAEA announced an outline of accelerated work plans over the
next two years.
