Sites named for the first AP1000 and ESBWR reactors. | Print |  E-mail
The NuStart Energy Consortium in the USA has named TVA's Bellefonte site for the first combined construction permit operating license (COL) application for Westinghouse's AP1000 reactor and Entergy's grand gulf for GE's ESBWR. NuStart plans to submit to the applications to the NRC in late 2007 and 2008 although they are yet to decide which one to submit first. Separately, Entergy said it would prepare on its own a COL application for an ESBWR at its River Bend station. River Bend and Grand Gulf each have one operating reactor, although both had been planned as two-unit sites. Bellefonte has two partially constructed PWRs at its site; TVA have said that the new unit would be built adjacent to those structures.
