Russia and China will both become new members of the Generation IV International Forum (GIF) as a result of the unanimous vote which took place on 13 July. The two nations are expected to formally join the GIF and its current 11 members sometime this November. Both China and Russia can bring much to the table with their technical capabilities in the group's development of next generation power reactors.
At the same meeting, Jacques Bouchard of France, who previously headed the Nuclear Energy Division of Commissariat á L'Énergie until he retired in 2004, was elected chairman of the GIF Policy Group. His three-year term is planned to begin at the start of the next GIF Policy Group meeting which is taking place this autumn in Paris. |
