Philip Dewhurst to be new NIA Chairman | Print |  E-mail
The AGM of the Nuclear Industry Association appointed Mr Philip Dewhurst of BNFL as its new Chairman on 1 December 2004. Previous Chairman Tony Cooper was appointed as a non-executive Director of the NDA in October this year and as a result announced his intention to resign as Chairman at this year's AGM.

Unlike Tony, Philip will be taking the role in a non-executive capacity. Philip has been a member of the NIA board for 3 years and is delighted to be taking up the position at such an exciting time for our industry.

At the time of the NIA review Tony made it clear that by 2005/06 he intended to step down as Chairman and make way for a non-executive Chairman from the Board. His departure is slightly earlier than anticipated because of his appointment to the NDA Board. However, he intends to remain involved with NIA as a consultant to help primarily in promoting the case for new build in this crucial period around the general election, and in mentoring the new generation of industry spokespersons.

NIA Chief Executive Keith Parker said, "I am personally delighted to have secured the services of someone with the breadth of experience that Philip has and I look forward to working with him. I have very much enjoyed working with Tony in what has been a very productive time for the NIA and I thank him for all his efforts. I am equally pleased that he will be continuing to work with us as a consultant."
