Nuclear closure challenged | Print |  E-mail
The local council in Kävlinge, Sweden, where the country's Barsebäck nuclear power plant is located, are taking legal action against the Swedish government to stop the scheduled closure of the plant's second power unit in May.

The Council believe the government's decision to close Barsebäck-2 violates Swedish environmental and industrial laws as well as EU legislation. This is because an environmental assessment on the proposed closure had not been carried out. Kävlinge has also requested an injunction on the closure until a ruling is made.
