New President for AMEC Nuclear | Print |  E-mail

AMEC, the international project management and engineering services company, has recruited Mike Saunders of Westinghouse to lead the development of its key nuclear business, the company has announced. This appointment of a respected and senior industry figure marks AMEC’s focus on the growth opportunity available in the nuclear market worldwide.

Mike Saunders, 46, was Senior Vice President of Strategy and Integration at Westinghouse following the recent acquisition by Toshiba and immediately before this was the Senior Vice President for the Global Nuclear Fuel Business. He joined AMEC on 29 January as President of AMEC Nuclear, AMEC’s worldwide nuclear business.

“We are delighted to have recruited Mike, who has a great combination of strategic vision, and management know how, and hands-on operational experience of our market,” said Tim Watson, chief operating officer of AMEC Power and Process division. “His experience is just what we need as we position AMEC to capitalise on its strong competitive position in the UK and the world nuclear industry.”

Mike Saunders said: “I am thrilled to be joining AMEC at this exciting time for the company and for the market. I look forward to driving this business forward, and ensuring AMEC fulfils its potential as a leading player in this market sector.”

Mr Saunders will be based in the UK at AMEC’s Booths Hall site. He replaces the chief executive of AMEC Nuclear, Alan Lamerton, who will retire as planned in early April. Alan was responsible for shaping AMEC Nuclear into its current form following the acquisition of NNC in 2005.
