New Parliament new ministers | Print |  E-mail
The new government has seen many changes in the energy field with the old Department of Trade and Industry being replaced with the Department of Productivity, Energy and Industry headed by Alan Johnson MP as Secretary of State. It seems the likely that the new department will give energy a more prominent role in government.

The new Energy Minister is Malcolm Wicks MP for Croydon North. Mr Wicks has no previous connections with the energy industry but was a minister with Alan Johnson in the Department of Work and Pensions before the election.

The Conservative Party has also reshuffled its frontbench team with David Willets becoming Shadow Secretary of State for Productivity, Energy and Industry and Oliver Letwin taking on Margaret Beckett who continues as Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. The junior shadow ministers will be announced shortly as will the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet and ministers.
