ACHIEVING BEST practice and standardisation of contracts are the aims of a new nuclear forum launched this week. The Tier 1 Working Group is a collaboration between the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) and 25 international companies. The forum will aid two-way discussion between the NDA and aspiring “Tier 1” companies - those contractors looking to manage large-scale nuclear projects; and will identify improvements based on industry best practice and experience helping the NDA evolve its current contracts. Ron Gorham, NDA head of supply chain development and commercial relationships said the new group would be vital in ensuring that our competitions are effective. “The creation of the working group provides a unique opportunity for the aspirant tier 1 companies and the NDA to work in genuine partnership towards defining commercial arrangements which encourage world class performance” The move was also welcomed by Keith Parker, chief executive of the NIA, the UK’s nuclear trade association, and Dr Ian Roxburgh, NDA chief executive. Keith Parker said: “Part of the NIA’s remit is to foster and support the commercial activities of our member companies and this link-up with the NDA provides a solid base for ongoing consultation.” Dr Ian Roxburgh said: “ One of our key aims is to improve contractor performance and deliver best value to taxpayers while at the same time encouraging innovation. The creation of the working group is a positive step towards this.” Kevin Smith of AMEC Nuclear will be the forum’s chairman. He said: “The NIA has provided member companies with an opportunity to shape the evolution of NDA contracts. The industry welcomes the opportunity to engage with the NDA and we look forward to a positive outcome.” |
