Gordon Campbell has today been announced as the new Chair of BNFL. Patricia Hewitt, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry formally announced Mr Campbell as Hugh Collum's successor, effective from 1 June 2004.

Gordon Campbell is part-time Chairman of Babcock International Group and former Chief Executive of Courtaulds Plc. He is also a Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and has been on BNFL's Board of Directors since 1 August 2000.

Mr Campbell will Chair BNFL until the restructuring of the company in April 2005 and will Chair the successor company beyond that until the end of March 2007. He said: "I am delighted to be taking up the Chairmanship of BNFL at such an important time. I am looking forward to working with Mike Parker, as we take the Group forward."

Patricia Hewitt said: "Gordon has a wealth of experience in leading change in large scale industries and in delivering business strategies. These skills and his strong leadership will ensure BNFL's successful restructuring."
