DTI has announced the appointment of Barbara Judge as Chairman of UKAEA. Barbara Judge has been acting Chairman since Denis Tunnicliffe resigned to take a life peerage in May. She has been a Non-executive Director of UKAEA since September 2002. Barbara Judge is a lawyer, international banker and entrepreneur. Currently she is Deputy Chairman of Friends' Provident plc and the Financial Reporting Council and Chairman of the Professional Standards Advisory Board of the Institute of Directors. Previously, she was Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and a main board director of Samuel Montagu and News International plc. She also serves as a Governor of the School of Oriental and African Studies and a Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts and The Wallace Collection. Welcoming the appointment, UKAEA Chief Executive, Dipesh Shah, said: "I am personally delighted that Barbara was the successful candidate who emerged from an impressive field of applicants. She knows UKAEA well, and has throughout been a very supportive colleague, and a powerful advocate of our cause. I look forward to working with her through a period which we know will be challenging, but which we both feel can set the direction for a very successful future for UKAEA." |
