Nuclear services company and NIA member Areva has announced an alliance with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan to begin development of a third generation 1,000MW nuclear power plant they believe will attract great market demand.
Apart from third generation reactor development, the agreement covers other fields of possible cooperation such as procurement, services, fuel cycle and new types of reactors.
Areva said the nuclear renaissance has brought about new challenges for the nuclear industry, with growth and new expectations of clients requiring significant mobilisation of large financial and human resources.
The two groups previously worked together in constructing the Rokkasho reprocessing plant in Japan, using technology developed for Areva's La Hague reprocessing plant in France. |
