NIA welcomes decision for Hinkley Point C

The Nuclear Industry Association (NIA) has welcomed EDF Energy's selection of Bouygues TP/Laing O’Rourke Joint Venture as preferred bidder for a contract for civils work to build a proposed new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C in Somerset.

Peter Haslam, Public Poloicy Advisor at the NIA commented;

"This is great news for the Hinkley project and for the consortium that has been named as the preferred bidder for this significant £2billion contract. This is just one of many contracts that will flow from the major infrastructure project if it is approved following the EDF final investment decision which we expect around the end of the year.

"In addition to the 25,000 high quality jobs that will be created across the life of the plant at Hinkley if the project goes ahead, the reactor will provide energy for schools, hospitals and industry for many years to come."
