Chief Executive, Government Services Business Group, British Nuclear Fuels PLC

Lawrie Haynes is the newly appointed CEO of Government Services Business Group, and is now charged with heading up the Company's remediation work on nuclear sites, including Sellafield, in the UK and the United States. He is also responsible for Environmental Services projects on nuclear sites within the UK and across Europe and the United States. Previously, Lawrie was Group Managing Director of Telecoms for the Lattice Group plc and CEO of 186k Ltd, a national fibre-optic telecoms operator managing a £500m investment. Included in this remit was the Chairmanship of SST Ltd, a national towers operator for the mobile phone market, as well as Chairmanship of Urband, a joint venture company with Thames Water and a Directorship on the Board of Bulldog Communications. A highly successful career as CEO of the Highways Agency preceded, which had responsibility for England's motorways and trunk roads and which, at the time, was a £55 billion business with a £2.4 billion budget and 2,500 staff. As Legal Director and then Managing Director of Microtel Communications Ltd (now Orange), Lawrie pioneered the liberalisation of the telecommunications industry. He became Project Director of BAe after the Company was sold to Hutchison Whampoa where he re-structured BAe businesses.
