AMEC buys NNC
NIA member company AMEC has bought NNC, the nuclear services business (another NIA member) for £38 million. The bid was accepted by NNC's shareholders (3i, BNFL and NNC management). AMEC are seeking to expand the nuclear side of their business as they believe that expansion of nuclear generation across the world is almost certain. With this in mind they have also recently purchased 49% of French firm Game Nucleaire.

Studsvik acquires ERS
Studsvik has acquired the Newcastle based Environmental Remediation Services Limited (ERS). Studsvik has made the acquisition in order to strengthen its position in the British market by acquiring a company specialising in waste management, decommissioning and radiological protection services to nuclear facilities. ERS will now be known as Studsvik UK Ltd.

Studsvik is a leading service supplier to the international nuclear industry. Studsvik addresses a market in strong growth with specialised services in four strategic business areas: operating efficiency and safety, service and maintenance, waste treatment and decommissioning. Studsvik has 1,300 employees in 7 countries and it is based in Stockholm. ERS, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, is an engineering consultancy with ten employees and a broad network of contacts in the British market.

BNFL re-badges US activities
BNFL Inc has announced that the company has changed its name to "BNG America" BNG America will continue BNFL Inc's work as a leading provider of radioactive waste management, clean-up services, and nuclear operations in the United States.

The company has over 1,000 employees on projects across the US and has a foundation of over 15 years of experience successfully decommissioning and cleaning up some of the most technically challenging legacies in the US.

BNG America's subsidiaries have changed their names as well. BNFL Fuel Solutions will become BNG Fuel Solutions and BNFL Savannah River Corporation will become BNG America Savannah River Corporation.
