There has been a surge of interest in energy matters in Parliament in the first quarter of the year, with the publication of the Scottish Affairs Committee’s report on meeting Scotland’s future energy needs and calls from Martin O’Neill MP and Brian Wilson MP for an energy review soon after the election.

There has been a surge of interest in energy matters in Parliament in the first quarter of the year, with the publication of the Scottish Affairs Committee's report on meeting Scotland's future energy needs and calls from Martin O'Neill MP and Brian Wilson MP for an energy review soon after the election.

The All Party Group will witness a change of Officers with the General Election, to be held on 5 May, as the Chair, Bill Tynan MP, will be standing down.

The meetings in 2005 so far have included: Dipesh Shah, Chief Executive of UKAEA, who outlined his intention to substantially cut planned timescales and cost of decommissioning projects; Ala Alizadeh of Atomic Energy of Canada, who addressed the group on AECL's Candu reactor and progress with future reactor construction; and John Ramsay, Chief Executive of Cogent Sector Skills Council, who explained how Cogent is dealing with the possible prospect of skills shortages in the industry.

The Group's website is now live; for information, please visit www.allparty-nuclear.org.uk
