Pakistan has started construction on its Chashma-2 reactor. It has also announced that it intends to build 8,800MW of nuclear capacity in the coming 25 years. The second Chashma unit, like the first, will be a 300MW PWR built by Chinese industry. Pakistan has started construction on its Chashma-2 reactor. It has also announced that it intends to build 8,800MW of nuclear capacity in the coming 25 years. The second Chashma unit, like the first, will be a 300MW PWR built by Chinese industry. The government has accepted the 25 year plan from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission to install 8,800MW of nuclear power during the next 25 years to meet the country's growing energy needs. Pakistan now has two units with a total capacity of 425MW. The ground breaking ceremony was performed by Ishfaq Ahmad, technology and strategic programmes advisor to the Prime Minister and was attended by Wang Shoujun, Vice President of China National Nuclear Corp.
