Philip Dewhurst, new NIA Chairman
The NIA AGM appointed Philip Dewhurst, Group Director, Corporate Affairs of BNFL as our new Chairman on 1 December. As reported in the last edition of Industry Link, our previous Chairman Tony Cooper was appointed as a non-executive Director of the NDA in October this year and as a result announced his intention to resign as Chairman at this year's AGM.

Unlike Tony, Philip will be taking the role in a non-executive capacity. Philip has been a member of the NIA board for 3 years and is delighted to be taking up the position at such an exciting time for our industry.
At the time of the NIA review Tony made it clear that by 2005/06 he intended to step down as Chairman and make way for a non-executive Chairman from the Board. His departure is slightly earlier than anticipated because of his appointment to the NDA Board. However, he intends to remain involved with NIA as a consultant to help primarily in promoting the case for new build in this crucial period around the general election, and in mentoring the new generation of industry spokespersons.

NIA Chief Executive Keith Parker said, "I am personally delighted to have secured the services of someone with the breadth of experience that Philip has and I look forward to working with him."

Before joining BNFL Philip was UK CEO of Shandwick International, the leading PR company.

Improved member services
As part of NIA's drive to improve its communications with member companies, and tailor its services to meet their needs, Kate Amos, NIA's Member Services Manager, will be opening a branch of NIA in the North West from the middle of February. Kate will undertake regular visits to members throughout the country to discuss companies' interests and needs, and any concerns they might have. She will also assist in facilitating networks of member companies with common interests, providing information and support specifically designed to benefit small and medium enterprises, and be available to undertake ad hoc projects for member companies.

Kate's contact details in her new location will be sent to you in due course, although her e-mail will remain This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it
