On the international scene, Ben Sailsbury (BNES Young Generation Network Events Officer, British Energy) and Franck Chesse (Areva) led the 2007 YGN Technical Tour to France.

This was a vibrant and impressive overview of the French nuclear industry from cradle to grave. The tour was organised in partnership with ENS and kindly hosted by Areva.

The 15 strong delegation was treated to a VIP tour of French nuclear operations from fuel fabrication at the Melox site; to the Creusot Forge and St. Marcel heavy components manufacturing plants to view the spectacular facilities for the construction of reactors; to Flamanville to view current operations and the site for the new EPR; reprocessing and waste treatment were viewed at La Hague and finally the group saw the ANDRA waste management site which is heavily involved in recycling.

The visits and presentations were first class and the participants were delighted with the event. The young engineers made important networking links and recognised that this was an exceptional opportunity to gather information and establish strong links with international industry professionals.
