The BNES Young Generation Network (YGN) has completed its third and final “Rough Guide” seminar for 2007 at Sellafield.

The highly successful event was attended by a delegation of 35 enthusiastic “YGNers” (including myself) and included a complete introduction to Sellafield. The YGN continues to cultivate networking and information gathering activities nationally and around the world for young professionals in the industry. It now has over 550 members from 62 organisations.

The rough guide was staged with the help of Sellafield Limited and provided a valuable insight to a complex site included a mixture of site tours and presentations from a number of high profile speakers including Dr Ian Roxburgh (NDA), Neil Blundell (NII), Jamie Reed MP Copeland), and John Clarke, Steve Morgan, Andy Scargill, and Martin Leafe from Sellafield Limited demonstrating the level of importance placed on nurturing young professionals and supporting the YGN. We also had a presentation given by our own Amanda MacMillan on the role of the NIA and the energy mix.

Each speaker demonstrated a great pride for “their industry” and the importance of getting young people interested in coming into and staying within the industry. It was encouraging to hear all their views about taking the industry forward with a new work force and achieving the next level of a successful decommissioning programme and the possibility of new build.

Once again this event was oversubscribed; to register early interest for next year please contact Neil Crewdson on This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it or to find out further information on what the YGN do please visit their website www.ygn.bnes.com
