BNFL continued reorganisation

The BNFL portfolio continues to reduce with the sale of Reactor Sites Management Company (RSMC) to EnergySolutions, the new parent of Magnox Electric Limited (MEL). MEL continues to hold the contracts and licenses to operate ten reactor sites on behalf of the NDA (formally British Nuclear Group Magnox). The business is split into two regions, a northern region which carries out electricity generation, de-fuelling and decommissioning, while the southern region undertakes de-fuelling and decommissioning operations.http://www.magnoxelectric.com/

Sellafield Limited replaces British Nuclear Group Sellafield as the new name for the company managing and operating the Sellafield and Capenhurst sites on behalf of NDA.www.sellafieldsites.com International Nuclear Services (INS) is now fully integrated into Sellafield Ltd managing the contracts and logistics for nuclear fuel recycling products and services for UK and overseas customers.

Project Services and NEXIA Solutions currently remain within BNFL group.

NUKEM Limited has a new parent – Freyssinet.

NUKEM was recently acquired by the Freyssinet Group, specialists in civil and structural engineering. Freyssinet is a subsidiary of VINCI, a world leader in construction who, through VINCI plc, own Norwest Holst with whom NUKEM Limited has close ties on various design and build projects.

Although close ties remain with the former NUKEM Group, NUKEM Limited is no longer part of that organisation and at some point within the next 10 months there will be a brand change. In the meantime, NUKEM Limited is currently going through a period of transition as the synergies that exist between the UK and other members of the Freyssinet Group are developed and understood. Freyssinet will provide the perfect environment for NUKEM Limited to continue to grow both in the UK and overseas. They have an impressive international network and an enviable reputation in the French nuclear market with serious ambitions for further expansion with the support of NUKEM Limited.

YGN Chair promotes vibrant network

The BNES, Young Generation Network (YGN) was formed in 1996 to promote communication and organise activity both nationally and with the other young generation networks around the world.

The YGN is able to arrange a full annual engagement programme including conferences, seminars, lectures and social events. It responds to government consultations and national media, submits articles to journals and provides speakers for national and international events. Developing links with educational and training groups is a key activity and this includes presenting to schools, taking part in debates with young political groups, or staring in educational videos used in the national curriculum's GCSE syllabus.

YGN Chair, Neil Crewdson said, “We are a vibrant network which sets out to encourage more young people to join and stay within the industry by creating support networks for personal developments as well as making nuclear ‘fun’.

“Every member of the YGN is given the opportunity to get involved in the industry at all levels and gain the benefit of having their voice heard.”

NIA works closely with YGN through representation on the core committee and providing speaker training and communication assistance.
