By Amanda MacMillan, NIA member services manager.
NIA recognises the important need for companies to build strong relationships with potential clients, partners and suppliers and other stakeholders such as the NDA and DTI. NIA can facilitate that process through the opportunities it offers members to network, share information and intelligence and build those firm relationships. Recent initiatives demonstrate the value of close co-operation between NIA members operating through the association in pursuing common issues and interests.

NIA members operating in the decommissioning and clean-up market are engaged with the NDA and incumbent tier 1s in discussions to improve procurement practice in the sector. This valuable exercise should result in positive developments for the supply chain.

Similarly, the new Tier 1 Working Group, jointly sponsored by the NDA has provided a forum for the aspiring tier 1 (Parent Body Organisation) community and their ultimate client (the NDA) to establish robust relationships and participate in consultative dialogue on generic contractual issues to drive best practice. Further information available at http://www.nda.gov.uk/contracts/t1wg.cfm or http://www.niauk.org/tier-1-working-group.html

Industrial Affairs Working Group

The group continues to effectively ensure NIA member concerns are heard and to influence change. Tier 2 and 3 organisations have successfully provided input and remain prominent part of ongoing consultation in the NDA Supply Chain Development Project aimed at creating a healthy and competitive market by seeking opportunities to remove waste, simplify processes and introduce more consistency. Further information will be available from the NIA and NDA websites.

Not forgetting our smaller member companies in the industry the NIA recently took part in a meeting which will become the fore-runner of a dialogue to investigate the need for a national forum representing Tier 3/4’s SME’s. Lead by the NDA, bodies traditionally supporting this community were invited to share best practice and identify opportunities for greater collaboration.
If you require further information do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the NIA team.
