Canadian nuclear industry visits the UK | Print |  E-mail
Tuesday, 15 May 2007
By Norman Buckley, NIA Business Development Manager.
A team of twelve Canadian companies and supporting organisations, all members of the Canadian Nuclear Association (CNA), visited the UK between 5 and 9 February 2007.

The companies are all engaged on work in the Canadian nuclear power industry and included the CAN, AECL, CTSN, Kanata Electronics, Merlin General Corporation, Newman Hattersley, SNC – Lavalin Nuclear Inc, Wardrop Engineering, Ian Martin Ltd together with representatives from the Canadian Power Workers Union, the British Consulate General and the Canadian High Commission.

The visit was arranged by NIA jointly with UKTI at the request of the Canadians who wished to meet with NIA member companies in order to present themselves, network and learn about possible reciprocal trade opportunities with UK suppliers in the nuclear industry.

During their visit the Canadian team spent two days meeting with West Lakes Renaissance and companies in the North West, followed by three days of joint NIA/UKTI arranged activities including a tour of Heysham 2 Power station kindly arranged by British Energy, a full days joint UK/Canadian seminar in London at the DTI Conference Centre and a meeting and tour of Weir Strachan and Henshaw premises in Bristol.

Sixteen UK NIA member companies registered for the joint UK/Canadian seminar in London on 8 February and whilst UK attendance was affected by snowfall on the day, the seminar and following reception was a success and feedback on the weeks proceedings overall has been very positive.
